Matisse Ruby is a Chilean (Mapuche)/Australian writer and director from Sydney Australia. Matisse graduated from the Australian Film and Television School with degrees in both Directing and Screenwriting.

Early in her career, Matisse began assisting on the development of works such as the AACTA Award Winning short “Oscar Wilde’s The Nightingale and The Rose” with Del Kathryn Barton and Warwick Thornton’s “We Don’t Need A Map”. Matisse has since served as Associate Producer on documentaries “Blasko” and “Hannah Gadsby’s Nakedy Nudes”, both for ABC TV.

Over the years, Matisse proved herself as a story development gun and spent four years working closely with director Brendan Fletcher during the development of his feature film and television slate – including the upcoming AMC+ Series “Firebite” with Academy Award Winning production company See Saw films.

Matisse’s deep and innate understanding of both storytelling and her background spent enveloped in the arts carries through into her own directing work. In 2021 she directed seven 50 minute films for the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Studiocast Season, one of which was honoured with an Australian Directors Guild nomination.
